Appropriate Rabbit Mating And Proliferation Of Offspring

The appropriate mating of rabbits and proliferation of offspring are a very significant process in the rabbit farming venture. Continuous proliferation of offspring would allow the rabbit farming venture to develop and expand. A small rabbit farm can develop into a large business if the proper mating and reproduction methods are used. This would help the business derive and process more rabbit based commercial items. Accomplishing the process of reproduction and mating is very easy. The handlers dealing with the rabbits should first need to understand the fundamental concepts behind the communication process and relations between the buck and doe. The interaction between the buck and doe is predictable which makes it easy for the handlers to initiate and facilitate the mating process. That is why numerous offspring can be generated in a short amount of time.

The first concept that should be understood is the tendency, pattern and preference of the buck and doe. The doe is very defensive and aggressive when it comes to the territory established. The doe would attack another rabbit if it is placed in the area of the cage which has already been claimed. Mating would then be harder to accomplish. The most effective way to initiate mating is by placing the doe inside the cage already marked by the buck. The doe would not attack a buck if it is placed in an unfamiliar location.  The mating process can then be achieved easily.

The appropriate timing of the mating is also crucial. Mating and reproduction at a premature time would have a negative effect to the doe. Its lifespan would be greatly reduced. This is due to the damage done to the reproductive system of the doe. The appropriate mating period would vary depending on the type of breed utilized. Rabbits with smaller size would develop in a more rapid manner which allows earlier mating. Mating can be accomplished as early as 4 to 6 months. Rabbit breeds with greater sizes and masses have a slower developmental phase which is why the mating is delayed to 10 months. The doe should only be impregnated 4 to 6 times per annum. There should be a significant allowance in between the time of two pregnancies in order to avoid problems with the reproduction system.

The offspring inside the womb of the rabbit would require 30 to 32 days to develop. The handlers would know that the doe is pregnant due to the mood and unpredictable behavior. When the doe is antisocial and reacts negatively to other rabbits, it is said to be pregnant. During this time, the proper vitamins and food items should be provided.

There are chemical substances which can be used to induce mating which includes pheromones. Pheromones are applied on the female rabbit. Once the buck catches the scent, it would be immediately aroused. This would allow the mating process to be accomplished more easily.
